CYBERUK provides an important opportunity for the NCSC to facilitate a national conversation and help build a community to take action collectively on cyber security.
We are proud to be hosting CYBERUK 2018 in the city of Manchester. This digitally ambitious part of the UK feels like a perfect location for our flagship event.
I wanted to outline the format and key themes that delegates can expect across the events’ three days. I am excited by this year’s content; the range of quality speakers, the thought-provoking topics and the imaginative combinations of diverse talent.
CYBERUK consists of two complementary events opening with In Practice (10-11 April) and closing with Leadership (12 April).
CYBERUK In Practice offers a wealth of content on the technical aspects of developing and implementing cyber security in the face of complex problems and threats. It will bring together a diverse community to combine expertise across disciplines and professions.
Key themes covered include vulnerability discovery, security mitigations, understanding attacks and how to detect them, and new approaches to security analysis, management and modelling.
Alongside the talks and workshops, there will also be a wide range of immersive experiences for delegates staged across Manchester Central. This includes the Cyber Games technical challenges, a Cyber Den event judged by NCSC Technical Directors and industry representatives as well as a Spotlight Stage featuring 26 discussion-sparking Lightning Talks.
CYBERUK Leadership takes place on the final day. It is an opportunity to develop challenging and productive conversations amongst the leadership community. The one-day event will offer updates on strategy and delivery plans, reflecting the energy and ambition of the government’s drive to make the UK the safest place to live and do business online.
Reducing cyber risk through effective leadership, responding to a cyber incident, managing the present and shaping the future, and putting skills and knowledge at the heart of cyber security are some of the key themes that will be covered.
The sessions will be underpinned by a series of compelling plenary keynotes and panel debates from influential leading figures.
The NCSC is committed to ensuring that diversity is at the heart of CYBERUK 2018. Embracing diversity and inclusivity across everything we do is paramount. Countering entrenched and damaging biases that hold back our mission is crucial to our success as an organisation, a sector and a society. With diversity of thought in the programme, our speakers and attendees will provide a positive learning and sharing experience for all participants.
