Cyber Ransom

Cyber Ransom: A nasty cyber gang claims to take a bite out of Apple with $50 million ransom. The gang of cyber criminals are demanding the Cupertino-based firm pay up the money or they will release Apple device blueprints.

In case the technology giant were in any doubt of the gang’s criminal bona fides, the gang call themselves REvil. Whether the gang leader sits in an underground lair with stroking a Siamese cat is, as yet, unclear.

The extortion threat was unveiled hours before Apple was scheduled to make a series of major new product announcements.

REvil aka Sodinokibi – published a number of alleged blueprints for Apple devices, which it claimed to have stolen from Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer, which builds computing devices for a number of vendors.

“In order not to wait for the upcoming Apple presentations, today we, the REvil group, will provide data on the upcoming releases of the company so beloved by many,” the REvil gang threatened.

“Tim Cook can say thank you Quanta,” it adds, referring to Apple’s CEO in the Cyber Ransom demand.

Quanta and Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apparently nonplussed by the scary threats, Apple decided to proceed with their product launch, which included launching AirTag, a small accessory designed to help users find lost items, such as car keys so presumably they can’t be held to cyber ransom.
